Out of Control

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts” - ISAIAH 55:8-9

On the threshold of Easter when The stone burst away from Jesus’ tomb, New life brightens my motherhood as my firstborn turned two and we discovered the gender of our growing second. As my baby shifted from baby to not-hits/childhood, aka toddlerhood, including tantrums and strong opinions (“no socks! no jacket! No pants! no toilet! One cookie!”) I discovered my dream of “a brown-eyed girl” delayed. Despite my gut-feeling and my son’s cry “I want a sister!”, a tossing and turning boy tot abides in my womb. Also, during the first week of April, in tandem with April Fool’s shenanigans, our air conditioning broke, the washer and dryer stayed barely alive, and the mattress company must have lost our order (several phone calls and no mattress in a month- I personally do not recommend ordering from Serta.com!). With so much waiting in situations I lacked any control over: the gender of our child, the breaking of our home and the delayed delivery of anticipated purchases (poor Matthew’s big boy bed birthday gift now arrives finally this week- a Sealy mattress from good-ole-reliable Costco), taught me His Thoughts are not my thoughts nor His Way my way. Yet these minor nuisances, AC, appliances and orders completely resolved quickly; as well as my own heart in adjusting to concept of birthing another son rather than daughter. My child is His child, my home is His home, my life is ordered by the Author of Life, so now I may live wild and free, absolutely secure in my out of control existence!
