Southern Dreams

Their childhoods' full of mild dreams
honeysuckle treats and magnolia trees
humid drifts and humming marshes
sudden storms and frequent y'all's
open smiles and kudzu covered white oaks
seeped in traditon and saturated in faith
southern seeds sowed deep as red clay
momma close by and daddy ready to wrestle
a feral existence tamed
by domesticated simplicities
my children rest in the southern land.
