Intuitive Scheduling

Writer's picture: Elizabeth Couture Elizabeth Couture

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;” - Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Like seasons we change, so my schedule longs for some spring cleaning. As spring awakens my pregnant self’s bouncing nerves as the routine of cleaning and toddler care no longer works. The rising heat and growing belly, I lack the motivation and energy to keep up with the cleaning routine that previously worked as vacuuming, dusting, and wiping takes twice as long now. As I snapped at my energetic toddler throwing toys around and peeing on himself as I am mopping the dirty kitchen floor from endless stickiness, I am sadden by picture of motherhood I am painting. In this new season of pregnancy and toddler care, I long to shift from the drab shades of enslavement to the endless house-chores lis to more colorful palette of park time and conversation answering my toddler’s continuous “Momma what’s that?”; to display a self-portrait of relaxed mother instead of stressed out maid. The anger and rising irritability in my head and heart indicate the need to “Do less, God bless.” So the solution: a serious sit-down conversation with my husband about hiring cleaners to come once a month to lift the heavy burden of deep clean while I maintain with light cleaning. The guilt of “I’m not working a paying full time job” so asking for “luxuries” such as maid service seems frivolous, required a mental shift to view lightening my load as a necessity in this season. So as seasons change the importance of reassessing schedules and realigning your head and heart shifts with the weather.

Spring Cleaning Reflection:

  1. What’s on your to-do list?

  2. What chores drain you, just leak a little? Fill your cup with accomplishment?

  3. How (with what attitude, principal- I.e patience, joy, peace) do you complete your to-do list with?

  4. How much of your precious time do you spend working, playing and resting? Where are your time deficients?

  5. What can you delegate or eliminate tasks that steal joy while increasing moments that fill you with joy?

So mommas who need to shed some stress-winter-pounds this springtime, spruce up your time by throwing out the wasteful while storing up the wonderful!
